Rushlift Win Aliaxis Business

Aliaxis award contract to RushliftDoosan’s national accounts partners, Rushlift, has emerged as the preferred supplier in one of the most keenly fought materials handling tender processes of the year, for international business group Aliaxis.

All the UK’s major forklift providers fought out a stringent tender process, hoping to secure orders for in excess of 100 forklifts over the next five years.

Rushlift, part of the Specialist Hire Group, worked together with Doosan to secure the initial orders for Aliaxis companies in Woolwich, Kent and Cannock.

“We are delighted to have been chosen by the Aliaxis Group,” said Rushlift sales and marketing director, John Chappell, “this is a real feather in our cap and a great sign of the strength of both the Doosan brand and our unrivalled support capabilities.”

Aliaxis, a privately held company best known in the UK for Marley Plumbing and Drainage brand, employs more than 15,000 people worldwide, in over 50 countries. More than 100 manufacturing and commercial companies, many of which trade using strong regional brands supply a host of trade professionals in four key market segments: building, sanitary, industrial and utilities.

UK Purchasing Category manager, Jim Holloway, worked to bring a national framework to a business with a variety of materials handling needs, bringing short term hire trucks into the business to trial their capabilities.

Said Jim: “Our main aim was to develop a long-lasting partnership with our providers, one that would be strong enough to provide the whole group with their needs, yet flexible enough to cope with the changes of a business like ours.”

A history of supplying the likes of BA World Cargo, Iron Mountain and Magnet went a long way to demonstrating Rushlift’s credentials at the top end of the UK materials handling market. However it was online fleet management, on-site engineers and KPIs based on uptime, first time fix rates, and engineer response times that helped Rushlift convince Jim that their fleet was in safe hands.

“Almost 70 trucks have been delivered to date,” said Rushlift national accounts manager, Matt Turner, “and so far the response has been very good. We set up the online fleet management system to give Jim and the other stakeholders real time access to fleet performance and set up the installation of re-fillable bulk gas station at the Marley production and distribution site in Lenham as part of the deal. We’re working hard to ensure the group are well catered and well cared for, this is exactly what Rushlift does best.”

In addition to Marley, Aliaxis Group company, Hunter Plastics, have taken delivery of 12 Doosan trucks for their Woolwich site. Hunter has earned its place as a UK leader in the above and below ground gravity drainage market through the development of specialist injection moulding and product assembly facilities. Operations Manager Steve Latter believes the new trucks will help the company move forward in tough market conditions.

Said Steve: “All the stakeholders at Aliaxis have strong ideas on how their businesses can benefit from a more consistent and monitored approach to materials handling. It’s a crucial part of the business and one that, I am pleased to say, we have spent a lot of time developing with Rushlift to get it right.”

The latest company to benefit from the agreement is Glynwed Pipe Systems Limited, based in Cannock, a pipe systems specialist, with trading names such as GPS and Durapipe UK. Site Manager Roger Hayward, expects the agreement with Rushlift to provide lasting benefits to the operation. Said Roger: “We have taken great care with our requirements and tender process, putting together a package that will increase our reporting and managing capabilities. It also ensures we get service that is second to none.”

With the deal now rolling out across the country, Rushlift’s John Chappell sees the future of forklift provision to continue to evolve, with more deals of this type.

Said John: “In previous years, large deals like this would only be possible if the operations in each part of the UK were of similar type. Now, with developments in forklift design, our own strong financial arrangements, online management of equipment and a network service personnel across the land, we feel that we are able to bring the benefits of one larger fleet deals to disparate groups of companies. It really is a sign of things to come.”

Rushlift is a leading provider of innovative materials handling solutions, with over 150 mobile engineers servicing customers from Aberdeen to Cornwall. As part of the Specialist Hire Group, Rushlift has experienced phenomenal growth over the past 5 years, making the Sunday Times’ “Fastrack 100” list of fastest growing companies in 2008.
